CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A development group that aimed at bringing a casino to Cedar Rapids before Iowa lawmakers placed a two-year moratorium in 2022, are going to apply for a gaming license again.
The moratorium ends June 30. Peninsula Pacific Entertainment and the Linn County Gaming Association announced Wednesday that they'll apply for a new gaming license at the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission's next meeting on July 8 in Altoona. If a license is approved, the groups will move ahead with their plans for Cedar Crossing – a casino proposed in May 2022 at the old Cooper's Mill site on the west side of the Cedar River.
Developers say if granted a license, Cedar Crossing plans to support local nonprofits with contributions of 8% of its annual gaming revenue – the highest in the state.
Iowa mandates licensed casinos donate at least 3% to nonprofit organizations.
