LINCOLN, R.I. — A Hopkinton woman is accused of leaving her dog inside her hot car for several hours last Friday as she gambled inside a casino.
Authorities said the dog — an adult cocker spaniel mix — died while inside the vehicle, and they arrested its owner, Young Ju Seol, of Hopkinton.
According to a Lincoln (R.I.) Police Department press release, officers responded to Bally’s Twin River Lincoln Casino Resort at about 7 p.m. Friday after a report of a car parked in the lot with its brake lights on and “heavy condensation” on its windows.

Police, in the release, said they forced their way into the car and found the dog dead on the driver’s side front floor. They said that at the time, the air temperature was more than 80 degrees and the temperature inside the car exceeded 110 degrees.
Police said the car’s air conditioner was not left on and the dog had no water.
The car was registered to Seol, who was in the casino. According to the release, the dog was left alone in the car for several hours. While police were in the parking lot, Seol came out to her car and allegedly told police the car and the dog belonged to her. She was immediately arrested.
Police charged Seol with malicious killing of an animal and animal confinement in a motor vehicle.
A phone number for Seol could not be found.
Police, in the release, called the treatment of the dog “cruel.”
“The Lincoln Police Department remains committed to providing the safety and well-being of all residents and visitors, including animals,” according to the release. “The killing of defenseless animals in such a cruel manner is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by our agency.”
Seol was arraigned Friday night before a justice of the peace and released. She is scheduled to appear in Third District Court on Oct. 17.
