HIGHLAND >> Pepe Aguilar will take his widely popular Grammy and Latin Grammy award-winning sound back to the San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino on Thursday night.
Aguilar, who has more than 5 million YouTube views of songs like “Me Vas a Extrañar” and “Por Mujeres Como Tu,” blends together a popular mix of ranchera, pop and mariachi.
He is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. Attendees must be age 21 and older to enter.
His last performance at the casino was Oct. 18, 2012. That same year, Aguilar received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame that was placed next to his father’s star, Antonio Aguilar.
His latest album is “Lástima Que Sean Ajenas,” which was released on Oct. 8 in the U.S. It’s sold more than 12 millioncopies. On his website, the singer discussed the album, which is a tribute to Vicente Fernández.
“I felt pain when I heard that… Vicente was retiring from the stage,” Aguilar said. “It’s like something inside you dies, as a story of which you were part. And it made sense to make a tribute to this man. There were some moments of doubt, when I said, ‘Gee, I’m recording a tribute to one of the best voices in the genre.’ But then again my essence, realizing I was not doing this project for anyone but for me. Even beyond… Vicente think (of) the final product. This goes much further.”
Aguilar said in the interview his father and Fernández were rivals.
“Vicente had to hear it in secret,” Aguilar said in the website interview. “But there was respect between them (Vicente Fernandez & Antonio Aguilar). The rivalry existed, but in the end were good friends. So I did this record. For my respect — respect for a colleague, a voice, music. I gave a touch different to the songs of… Vicente, but I respected the essence of the original interpretations.”
