A pedestrian died early Monday after a hit-and-run crash near the Encore Boston Harbor resort and casino in Massachusetts.
Boston police said the man was struck near the intersection of Dexter and Alford streets just after 3 a.m. in Charlestown. The crash scene happened near the Everett line and is a block away from the driveway entrance for Encore Boston Harbor.
The victim, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Edward Fernald, a truck driver, told NewsCenter 5 reporter Emily Maher that he was making a delivery around 3 a.m. when he saw the victim lying in the middle of the road and that he stopped to help him.
“I went over to check his pulse and see if he was alive,” Fernald said.
The vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene on Alford Street toward Everett, police said.
Fernald said pieces of the suspect vehicle were left behind in the street following the crash.
“The right fender. The right mirror’s missing. A person hit it for God’s sake. There has to be damage,” Fernald said. “If somebody sees the car damaged today and it wasn’t damaged yesterday, hopefully somebody will do that and report it. It would be fantastic, just the closure for the family.”
