More than six months ago, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board gave the “Green Light” for plans to move ahead with a new Casino in Centre County. Since then, those plans are still tied up in a series of Court suits. It does not appear that there’s going to be a quick resolution to the dispute.
The proposed Casino at the former Macy’s store site in the Nittany Mall remains mired in a three ring legal circus. There’s SC Gaming, who won license approval back in January for a Casino from the State’s Gaming Control Board. Challenging the decision is the Stadium Casino Group, who lost out to SC Gaming in the 2020 license bidding process, and the Gaming Commission itself.
In Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court, in their latest filing in May, the Stadium Casino Group again reaffirming they believe SC Gaming, headed by former Penn State Trustee Ira Lubert violated financing rules tied to license bidding process — which Lubert denies. The Stadium Group also challenging the Gaming Control Board in Court over jurisdiction issues. They allege a Counterclaim filed by the Board threatens to shut down Stadium’s other gambling sites in Pennsylvania.
Last week, Commonwealth Court issuing a series of rulings that essentially denies some portions of various casino related legal suits while allowing other parts of the lawsuits to move forward. The ruling also sets up more court hearings on the dispute this Fall, which could lead to more appeals in court and more delays for the Nittany Mall Casino.
