Danville City Council OKs changes to casino agreement
Kaushal Singh walked away with more than $450,000 last week at Danville Casino, marking the temporary facility’s largest winner.
The guest — only described by a casino news release as a “local” — won $458,078 playing a progressive table game.
Jireh Moore, a spokesperson for the casino, told the Register & Bee he could not disclose exactly where Singh resides.
“Since entering the tent a year ago, Singh has been as our biggest winner,” Chris Albrecht, senior vice president and general manager for Caesars Virginia, said in a news release. “This is only one of many major triumphs, and it’s just a matter of time until we have another winner who will hit big like Singh.”
Kaushal Singh, left, holds a ceremonial check for $458,078 after winning a progressive table game June 3 at Danville Casino.
It was overnight June 3 when Singh was playing on what’s known as a poker derivative game — crazy 4 Poker, specifically — when he placed a $5 side bet for a chance to win the progressive jackpot.
Coming up with a royal flush, the dealers and casino staff “went crazy with excitement,” according to the release.
The full casino resort is expected to be open by the end of the year.
Since the temporary version — housed in a giant tent-like structure — opened May 15, 2023, it has generated $221.9 million in gaming revenue and $13.3 million in gaming tax revenue for Danville.
However, Danville’s agreement adds more money to the city’s coffers. On top of taxes from the state, the city receives direct payments from Caesars as well.
Direct payments so far have amounted to about $5.5 million.
