TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) — A 51-year-old man has been charged with threatening to commit a mass shooting at Casino del Sol.
According to U.S. District Court documents, Michael McClernon is accused of phoning the casino and issuing the threat on or about Sept. 27. According to the court documents, McClernon said he was going to drive his truck into the front of the casino and start shooting.
McClernon said he did not recall making such a phone call, but he admitted he might have because he was upset with his treatment during a prior arrest at the casino.
During the call, documents say, McClernon identified himself to a Pascua Yaqui Police Department sergeant.
On Nov. 30, an employee of Casino del Sol was approached by a guest to extend his stay at the RV park at Casino del Sol, documents say. The employee noted the person had been staying for two weeks and also identified the person as McClernon. The employee contacted PYPD, and officers made contact with McClernon.
