Kansas Star Casino Launches FanDuel With Jordy Nelson
Last Tuesday, FanDuel officially opened their sports lounge at the Kansas Star Casino. The lounge features four self-service windows for sports betting and 20 kiosks. In addition to the betting windows, the lounge has platform screen TV’s and large comfy chairs.
FanDuel is an American gambling company that offers sports book, fantasy sports and horse racing. More than 1.8 million people are active on FanDuel’s sportsbook and since sports betting has become legal in Kansas, more people are accessing the network.
“We’ve had countless meetings at Kansas Star, countless visits here to make sure that our sports betting was ready to go the first possible day that we were able to open,” said FanDuel VP of Operations Jeff Lowich.
How did FanDuel kick off their grand opening? They invited Kansas native, retired NFL Pro Bowl wide receiver and Kansas State football standout Jordy Nelson to place the ceremonial
first bet. Nelson’s bet? He put $20 on the Kansas State Wildcats to win the Big XII this season.
Nelson, who played for the Green Bay Packers for 10 seasons, was asked by a fan if he was going to bet on the Packers. “Not today,” he said. “Maybe another day, but not today.”
Lowich said sports betting gives people more of a reason to watch games they wouldn’t normally watch. “So you go find a TV and you find a game you wouldn’t normally watch, well you have a few bucks on it so maybe you do watch it,” Lowich said.
Nelson said sports betting will change college and professional sports by making games more exciting. However, he said that fans need to be aware of financial integrity and making sure they are respectful to players.
“I’ve seen where people get a little out of hand when the game doesn’t go their way and then they start blaming the players. So hopefully fans can still be respectful even though they have some money on the game,” Nelson said. “I don’t think it should ever be enough to make you that mad. You are going to win some. You are going to lose some so play responsibly.”
