ROCKFORD — Hard Rock Casino Rockford has announced an opening date for its new 180,000-square foot venue at East State Street and Interstate 90.
The casino will open its doors at 7801 E. State St. at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29 after its traditional guitar smash, which is Hard Rock’s take on a ribbon-cutting.
“I’d like to thank the Rockford community and state of Illinois for welcoming Hard Rock and our unique brand of world-class entertainment to the greater region,” Jon Lucas, chief operating officer at Hard Rock International, said in a news release. “The economic impact of this casino will provide hundreds of new jobs and boost the entertainment options for anyone living near or visiting Rockford. We are thrilled to welcome this new property to our global portfolio of over 300 Hard Rock venues.”
The casino will include nearly 1,300 slot machines, 50 live table games including a poker room, a sportsbook, six restaurants and a Rock Shop with Hard Rock merchandise and other gifts.
Hard Rock said at this time a year ago that its goal would be to open by Labor Day weekend 2024. The opening will happen the Thursday leading into that weekend.
“We are extremely proud of our team members who helped make our initial Opening Act location a success, and we welcome all those new to the team who have worked so hard preparing for this long-awaited day,” Geno Iafrate, president of Hard Rock Casino Rockford, said in a news release. “It’s been 30 years in the making for Rockford and the wait is over. We are excited to welcome guests to our house to showcase and expand the legendary Hard Rock brand.”
The development includes Hard Rock Live, a 23,000-square-foot entertainment venue that can accommodate up to 2,000 guests for concerts and other performances.
Hard Rock is working to hire more than 400 workers to staff the new casino. It held a two-day mass hiring event at the start of this week to kickstart those efforts. You can still apply by going to GoToWorkHappy.com.
