DANVILLE — Five months after Golden Nugget Danville Casino received a temporary operating permit to open, Danville Development LLC will be going before the Illinois Gaming Board on Thursday for the casino’s permanent license.
The IGB will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday in Chicago.
The agenda under casino owners’ licensee items for final consideration of owners’ license lists Danville Development, LLC d/b/a Golden Nugget Danville.
According to Beth Kaufman, director of communications with the Illinois Gaming Board, “Golden Nugget will make a presentation to the board to discuss its suitability for licensure and provide an update about its operations since opening and plans going forward.”
IGB members and Administrator Marcus Fruchter will have an opportunity to ask any questions before the board votes to either grant or deny the casino license.
The board also could decide to table consideration for a future meeting. The process is governed by IGB rules.
The casino license is to be renewed every four years.
Also, according to Kaufman, the agenda item for Thursday’s meeting does not involve sports wagering. Golden Nugget Danville has not submitted an application for a master sports wagering license, so that issue is not yet before the board.
The IGB’s casino monthly report for September for Golden Nugget Danville, the smallest casino in the state, shows 32,580 admissions, second to lowest admissions of the state’s 15 casinos. Golden Nugget Danville showed total gross receipts in September of $3,340,238.33, with a state share of $399,183.87 and city share of $199,591.91.
Since May, Golden Nugget Danville has seen 134,668 admissions. Total adjusted gross receipts have been $12,042,092.86, with a state share of $1,473,545.32 and a city share of $736,772.63.
Golden Nugget Danville opened to the public on May 27, 2023 under the IGB-issued temporary operating permit. A grand opening was on Aug. 4.
The permit allowed the casino to open in the interim prior to the IGB approving the casino’s permanent license.
The casino started with temporary operating hours, still trying to fill more employee positions, and then expanded.
The $100 million Golden Nugget Danville Casino is off Lynch Road at 204 Eastgate Drive on the city’s east side.
The Danville Golden Nugget casino gaming floor features almost 500 slot machines, in addition to 14 table games. The Sportsbook has yet to open.
Danville Development President Jimmy Wilmot in May said, “We are excited to take the next big step in the process, and open our casino to the over 21 public. We are incredibly thankful of the hard work and support of the Danville community, greater Vermilion County, and the state of Illinois, especially the efforts of the Illinois Gaming Board. Without all these agencies and their representatives’ efforts we wouldn’t be here today.”
In March 2022, the IGB unanimously approved Danville Development LLC and its application being preliminary suitable for a Danville casino owners’ license. The following month, a groundbreaking for the casino occurred.
This followed a decades-long effort by local and state officials to have a casino open in Danville. In 2019, a gambling expansion bill included a casino license for Danville.
