Etowah Valley Humane Society’s Casino Night benefit will return Oct. 14 at Sixes Tavern in Cartersville.
Etowah Valley Humane Society’s Casino Night benefit will return Oct. 14 at Sixes Tavern in Cartersville.
Etowah Valley Humane Society will strive to generate essential funding and awareness through its Casino Night and Costume Party. Set for Oct. 14, the benefit will be presented at Sixes Tavern, 650 Henderson Drive in Cartersville.
“Not only does Casino Night provide an infusion of much-needed financial support, it also allows ambassadors of EVHS to engage the general public on the viability of EVHS in the Bartow County community,” EVHS Director Bryan Canty said. “There’s a lot of confusion and misconceptions about the relationship of Bartow County Animal Control and EVHS and the purposes that each organization serves.
“In addition, most folks have no idea of the plight of pet overpopulation and how it is completely preventable. It is our duty to seize every opportunity to educate the general public on responsible pet ownership.”
Along with Vegas-style casino games, Casino Night will feature food, prizes, silent auction and music. The buffet will start at 7 p.m., and tables will open at 8 p.m.
“The response to Casino Night has always been overwhelming,” Canty said. “Where else can you enjoy delicious food, awesome drinks, casino-style games (without the financial risk), great silent auction items and support a worthwhile cause? It’s a win-win for everyone.
“This year’s event, Casino Night Part Deux, will incorporate a costume theme as it precludes Halloween. That should add an exciting and interesting element to the night’s festivities.”
Initially known as the Bartow County Humane Society, the organization changed its name to Etowah Valley Humane Society in 2006.
According to www.etowahvalleyhumane.org, “EVHS began in 1996, as an adoption outlet for Bartow County Animal Control. In October of 2006, EVHS opened the doors of the new shelter located at 36 Ladds Mountain Road, in Cartersville, Georgia.”
The nonprofit’s facility costs around $325,000 to operate annually and consists of two visitation rooms, two staff offices, a surgical suite, a puppy room with 19 enclosures, 14 climate-controlled kennel runs, a cat room with 24 enclosures, a quarantine room for young puppies and an on-site dog park.
“Proceeds from the event benefit the great homeless pets at EVHS,” Canty said. “EVHS is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We do not receive any funds from state or national organizations. Contrary to popular belief, there is no network of humane societies in this country. They all function autonomously and independently of each other and serve various functions depending upon the needs of the community.”
Casino Night’s tickets, which cost $75 for general admission or $100 for VIP, can be purchased online at eventbrite.com or via www.etowahvalleyhumane.org.
“Casino Night offers an opportunity for folks to participate in casino gaming without the financial risk,” Canty said. “It makes for a great date night for couples. But most of all, it gives Bartow County residents face time with EVHS staff and board members who can articulate why EVHS provides an invaluable service.
“For those who don’t know — companion animal rescue is not fiscally self-sustaining. Not by a long shot. We could never survive off of adoption fees alone. The support garnered from our community is imperative if we are to continue doing what we do best — saving lives.”
