NASHUA – As a nod to the city’s heritage, Delaware North recently announced that Boston Billiard Club & Casino will now be known as Gate City Casino.
“We renamed it the Gate City Casino to pay homage to its location and history in Nashua,” said Brian Hansberry, president of Delaware North’s Gaming Division. “The new name reflects the expanded casino’s significance to the region. The name is both hyperlocal to appeal to our host community and broad sounding as an open gate to attract customers from neighboring cities and towns.”
Delaware North spokesperson Glen White said the casino began expanding its current location on Northeastern Boulevard earlier this year. The expansion includes a new poker room and more than 500 historic horse racing machines, which are expected to be up and running by mid-October.
In addition, a new DraftKings Sportsbook opened at the casino on Aug. 24.
“Delaware North worked with the New Hampshire Lottery and DraftKings to bring the sportsbook concept to the Nashua area,” said White.
The sportsbook has 12 self-service kiosks for sports betting and an over-the-counter window where patrons can place wagers.
“DraftKings is once again expanding its retail footprint in New Hampshire, offering sports fans another exciting destination to watch year-round sporting events and be a part of the action,” said Michael Kibort, senior director of retail sportsbook at DraftKings. “With the start of the NFL season just a few weeks away, we look forward to welcoming fans into the DraftKings Sportsbook at Gate City Casino during the most energetic time of year for sports betting.”
Hansberry said having the sportsbook will make the casino even more attractive.
“The addition of the retail DraftKings Sportsbook adds yet another entertainment element to Gate City Casino, which we think will be the most complete casino experience in New Hampshire,” he said. “DraftKings is a household name that we know our patrons will embrace.”
Looking ahead, more changes are on the horizon as Delaware North is planning to move the casino to the Sheraton Hotel on Tara Boulevard. Both the hotel and casino were purchased by Delaware North in October 2022.
“While we are completing the expansion at the current location, our vision is to house the casino at the hotel within a couple of years,” said Hansberry. “We want to provide onsite accommodations for casino patrons traveling from Greater Boston and the New England region.”
